Prayer of Confession: What kind of running are you doing?

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” – 1 John 1:9

This is a very different type of post for me as I am borrowing most of it from another source. Below is the Prayer of Confession from my church bulletin this past Sunday. It had an impact on me and I wanted to share it with all of you since the message is consistent with what I hope this blog helps to remind all of us.

There are many words and aspects of our life that have multiple meanings. I know the act of running is most often associated with exercise and the physical benefits many strive for. I pray that for those of you reading this, that running is a physical activity that also helps strengthen your faith and brings you closer to God and his amazing creation.

The Prayer of Confession below reminded me that running without keeping Him in mind may not only be useless, but can misguide us in our daily lives by believing we can do it on our own.  I hope you take a moment to read and find meaning in this in your life.

“Holy God, we have done a lot of running this week, but much of it was not for you. We have run in a lot of circles because we failed to take time for prayer. We have run down a lot of dead end streets because we were not following the Spirit’s leading. We have run in loneliness because we were not running for love of others. We have run with a sense of heaviness because we have tried to run by our own power. Forgive us, Lord, and show us the way to run, in the footsteps of Jesus, the one who calls us by name and claims us by his love.”

 God Bless,

Nick

Thanks for sharing this!! A great reminder that we can do nothing on our own, our strength is His strength.

It’s funny how I read the same thing on Sunday and it did not sink into my heart. I re-read it now and its amazing how impactful it is. This is why we need fellowship and community in the Holy Spirit. So we can help our brothers and sisters in Christ hear His whisper and see all the blessings He provides us.

    Thank you for the post!

This is great!! I do so much meaningless things when the most important goal is to keep running after Him. Thanks for the reminder.

  5. Nick this is great – may I reblog you?
